img-20161104-wa0025-300x169Faculty of Education organised a workshop for the counselors and special educators of MRIS, titled ‘Watching over the fence: Counselor-Teacher partnership in day-to-day schooling’. The theme of the workshop was to involve the teachers in day to day counseling in schools in order to cater to the counseling needs of every student. The workshop was attended by 16 counselors from the Manav Rachna International School. The workshop started with an introduction by  Faculty of Education, MRU. Subsequently, the participants were engaged in a discussion where in they explored the larger purpose behind being a school counselor and the restricting factors that stop them from reaching out to every student in the school. The discussion led to the theme of the workshop in which they identified the need to collaborate with the teachers to ensure school wide counseling intervention. During the last session benefits of specific tools like multiple intelligence survey, placing a dropbox, constructing a class profile etc. were discussed. Later, the participants were provided with the same in the form of handouts to be used in schools by the students, teachers and counselors. The objective behind developing and distributing these tools was to ensure a uniform and grass root level counseling intervention across all Manav Rachna schools.

During the wrap up session anecdotal sharing took place that opened up opportunities for the participants to think more creatively and seek out-of-the-box solutions. The participants expressed their eagerness to apply the new approach in their respective schools in order to ascertain positive mental health of all the students. The analysis of feedback forms filled by them revealed the need for more similar workshops to be held in order to refine their counseling skills.

Summer Training: Summer Training was conducted in the month of June and July 2014 after the MDU examination. It was compulsory for all the B.Tech and M.Tech students. From B.Tech and M.Tech, 314 students were trained. The on hand training wherein students of 2nd semester worked on the Machine tools in the workshop, work on the drafting software on the computer, and enhance their aptitude and other skills started on 11th June ’14. Catching them young seemed to be the motto of the institute. Institute offers compulsory summer training to the students. As an engineering student, training helps to acquire latest skills and to implement the concepts learnt in classes. Training provides chance to students to work more with their own hands, so it develops confidence, clears the concepts, and get new ideas of their fields.

The institute exhorts the students to stretch the boundaries of their imagination and innovate. The students are actually prompted to make components of metal, acrylic, and wood in the workshop. The 10 days training was over on 21st June ’14. The students also undergo training for 4 weeks during 4th and 6th Semesters. The preferences and priorities of the students are sought for and a suitable training schedule is drafted and put into practice. The program coverd training on core areas, communication skills, presentation skills, practical hands on working on various projects. The students end up preparing a project report covering all the facets of the training undertaken by them. This part of the training commenced from 23rd June ’14, and was over on 15th July ’14.
