Medical laboratory science combines the basic sciences of biology and chemistry with medicine and the clinical sciences into a very satisfying professional career. Medical laboratory scientists (also known as medical technologists) develop, perform, evaluate, correlate and assure the accuracy and validity of laboratory tests and collaborate with other health care professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

The program provides specialized technical training in test performance, correlation of laboratory data and disease management, and practice in problem-solving in the clinical laboratory. Graduates of our program are equipped to seek career enhancement and pursue management positions and/or graduate studies.

Eligibility Criteria
Pass in 10+2 Examination / Equivalent Examination with at least 50% marks in aggregate in 5 subjects including English, Chemistry and Biology as a compulsory subject along with 4 subjects with the highest score out of the remaining subjects.

These days with the growth in the private sector there are so many private hospitals, nursing homes, blood banks, pathology laboratories etc. the demand for laboratory technicians is on the upswing.

With adequate knowledge and experience, Medical Laboratory Technologists can advance to supervisory or management positions in laboratories and hospitals. They can also work as a Laboratory manager/Consultant/supervisor, health care Administrator, Hospital Outreach coordination, laboratory information system Analyst/Consultant, educational consultant/coordinator etc.  Additional opportunities are available in molecular diagnostics, molecular biotechnology companies and in vitro fertilization laboratories as well as in research labs.

Course Structure:

The B.Sc. program in medical laboratory technology is offered by different medical colleges/institutions across the country. The degree awarded is B.Sc.-M.L.S. The pre-requisite for B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS) is 10+2 with science subjects or equivalent from a recognized University or Board. The duration of the course is 3 years.
