Good oral hygiene is an important factor to keep both teeth and gums healthy. We cannot deny the fact that oral health builds the foundation for a healthy body. Healthy Teeth are the result of a little care that one needs to ensure every single day. Below given are the ways to maintain good oral hygiene:
How to Keep Teeth and Gum Healthy?
1) Choose a Good Toothbrush
There are two types of toothbrushes- Electric and Manual. Soft toothbrushes are recommended for patients which should be replaced every 3 months.
2) Use a Dentist Recommended Toothpaste
A dentist recommends highly fluoride toothpaste to the patient with a risk of decay tooth structure. Toothpaste can also be recommended for the whitening of teeth and dryness of mouth with anti-carious cavity.
3)Brush at least Twice a Day
A patient is not advised to copse teeth at any time but it is advised to brushwood teeth early in the morning and before sleeping at night. The patient is advised the same to prevent carious plaque accumulation and adequate teeth care. Full day accumulation of food debris takes place around the tooth structure as he/she goes to sleep. Saliva flow decreases at night and leaves harmful plaque to build up on the tooth surface. It is advised to brush teeth before going to sleep and also advised to clean his/ her teeth in circular motion up to 2 to 3 minutes.
4) Choose Your Beverage Wisely
Healthy diet including fibrous food, cheese, paneer, dairy products, vitamin D and calcium is necessary for having and building up strong teeth. Sugar-free gums and a low-fat diet is recommended whereas one should avoid sticky diet, sweet sugary drinks and citrous fruits including carbohydrates.
5) Use of Proper Brushing Technique
Many patients are not aware of the ways to sweep their teeth effectively; so a dentist usually demonstrates on a model or in their mouth to help them improve the technique to handle the toothbrush along the gum line angling the brush bristles towards gum with back and forth motion in both upper and lower arches, and the patient is also advised not to brush aggressively as it can damage to the enamel.
6) Dental Floss
Dental floss removes the food caught in the upper, lower posterior tooth region and also in interdental areas.
7) Use Mouthwash
Most of the patients complaining of foul smell in the oral cavity, should use mouthwashes. Chlorhexidine mouthwashes are effective to remove bacteria.
8)Brush Your Tongue
Brushing tongue is helpful to fight against bacteria in your mouth and ensures mouth hygiene. Cleaning your tongue helps get rid of bad breath. Tongue cleaner is helpful to remove bacteria and should be used everyday at the time of brushing teeth.
