Programs Offered:
Master of Arts in English programme shall be so structured by Manav Rachna University as to provide strong foundation in English language, theory, and literature. The Master of Arts shall be based on two-year broad-based, modular pattern of studies that provides depth and breadth of studies in the area of English discipline. Master of Arts. to hard specializations, but other types of literature, critical ideologies, and interdisciplinary studies can be pursued by the students independently. Even specialization space in the program is given as students can specialize studies based on their career goals and areas of interest.
Some of the main areas in the M.A. English program which are offered to the students are
English Literature: Overview of British, American, Indian, and world literatures. It covers all major literary periods, movements, and authors, providing students with complete literary background.
Literary Theory: The course acquaints the students with extensive knowledge about major schools of literary theory, e.g., Marxism, Feminism, Postcolonialism, and Structuralism. The students are fortunate enough to critically examine texts from diverse frames of perception.
Cultural Studies: Cultural Studies examines the impact of literature on culture and society's influence upon literature. How society's norms and values influence and are influenced by literature is also examined.
Creative Writing: Students interested in writing can learn various forms of creative writing, such as fiction and poetry and non-fiction.
Gender Studies: An interdisciplinary degree that attempts to introduce gender, sexuality, and identity into literary study. Students will be reading literature through the feminist lens, looking for representation and power dynamics.

Duration: 2 yrs. (4 Semesters)
This programme gives its graduates a competitive edge through robust curriculum and hands-on learning in niche technologies to develop competence which caters to the requirements of the industry. It primarily deals with the development and designing of computer software and hardware processes with strong focus on algorithms, programming languages, program design etc.
Program Structure
The curriculum is completed in 4 semesters of 2 years along with core classes in English literature and literary theory supported by upper-level electives in streams of postcolonial studies, creative writing, and gender studies. The students would also be led to work on research projects terminating in a dissertation (optional), through which the student is free to pursue one specific theme deep.
M.A. English program is planned in such a way that students, in addition to acquiring theoretical concepts, acquire practical concepts of research, critical analysis, and writing. Live project exposure and internship exposure enhance the curriculum.
Core Areas of Study
English Literature: Reading of literature that is representative of a wide variety of genres such as poetry, novel, play, and short fiction in British, American, and world literature. Curriculum with broad base providing a very penetrative insight into the historical development of literary movements and traditions.
Literary Theory: Different literary theories like postcolonialism, feminism, structuralism, and deconstruction are covered under the course. Theories are tried on different texts so as to provide the students with analytical skills that could be possible through critical reading.
Creative Writing: Modules such as creative non-fiction, fiction, and poetry are on offer for the course for those interested in writing. The focus in this instance is on crafting the students' narrative skills and writing technique and offering them the chance to create original work and be critiqued.
Postcolonial Literature: the study of postcolonial nation literature, focusing on how society, language, and culture were affected by colonialism. Novels such as by Chinua Achebe, Arundhati Roy, and Jean Rhys are what the students will be studying.
Gender Studies: Interdisciplinary analysis of literature from a gender point of view, considering gender issues, sexuality, and identity in literature of various schools. The students will analyze the representation of gender in pre-modern and modern literature.
This course is made flexible, with electives giving the students the option to specialize in fields of their choice, and thus they are capable of working in various streams of career in education, publishing, media, content writing, etc.
