Universities have been serving society from many years and over these years, the universities and the world have undergone significant transformation. Today, the world is more complex, is changing rapidly and is more connected. Social structures are changing, as are values and attitudes. Electronic communication has enabled us to know whatever happens almost anywhere in the world as soon as it happens. Subject information is available readily, in quantity and almost instantaneously. Competition is growing, people are increasingly mobile. Nation states are subject to competing centrifugal and centripetal forces based on several factors. People everywhere feel under pressure. Change is inevitable and here to stay .One of the important role of universities is to make some of these changes possible. They have been doing this in past by educating an ever greater proportion of the population, increasing its perspectives only by performing research which creates new understanding, new technologies and the potential for action. They also provide a store of knowledge and capabilities that society as a whole can draw upon. Our better health, wealth and general well being (whether environmental, cultural, social or spiritual) has been
possible by the research performed by universities. Moreover, universities have played most crucial role: that of helping society to understand why these changes are taking place. In a world of rapid change, quick responses and never enough time, the knowledge economy identifies knowledge as the most important form of capital and university research is one of the most important sources of new knowledge.

Learning requires research, discovery and critical inquiry. While conventional education can take place via simple transmission of information, practice and skills, learning takes place only through questioning and debate. This means that students are not just passive receivers of information but are active contributors to learning by their interactions amongst themselves and with academic staff. The purpose and role of a university is not to
produce students equipped to move into a particular job or type of job, it is to prepare students to live in a complex and unpredictable world in which they will need to respond to situations, challenges and opportunities which we cannot forecast or predict, and produce graduates who are flexible, resilient and have the self confidence necessary to take responsibility for their own actions. This requires a continued willingness to learn, a valuing of certain ways of thought and a set of attitudes that is open and humane. A pervasive research culture and dedicated Academic staff at MRIU enable them to develop the ability to evaluate information, assess its status and quality, and then
convert it through independent thought to knowledge and wisdom.
